Customer Support Engineer (DBMS / Open-Source)
Location: Amsterdam (Hybrid – 3 days in office)
Team: Developer Relations
About the Role
We’re looking for a Customer Support Engineer to join our Developer Relations team, someone who enjoys solving real problems for real users, and who takes satisfaction in making complex systems more approachable.
This role connects the dots between our users and our core engineering team. You’ll help triage incoming issues, ensure reproducibility, and contribute directly to how our customers experience DuckDB. You’ll also improve our documentation and internal processes, making sure that both our users and our engineers can focus on what they do best.
You are going to be the first dedicated support engineer at DuckDB Labs, and thus, you’ll get the chance to shape processes and eventually grow the position into a team.
We’re actively looking to strengthen the diversity of our team. In particular, we’d love to see more women represented in technical roles. If you’re a woman considering applying, please do, even if you’re not sure you meet every requirement.
What You’ll Do
- Take ownership of incoming support tickets: triage, clarify, and ensure reproducibility before involving core engineers.
- Collaborate closely with engineering to drive issues to resolution.
- Help users with “How do I do X with DuckDB?” questions.
- Spot recurring themes and update documentation to make life easier for future users.
- Contribute to improving our internal support processes, tooling, and metrics.
- Work cross-functionally with Developer Relations, Engineering, and Sales Engineering.
- Bring ideas for how we can grow and strengthen our support proposition as a business.
What You Bring
- Strong understanding of database systems; ideally, hands-on DBMS experience.
- Solid working knowledge of SQL.
- Ability to analyze technical problems methodically and communicate them clearly.
- Interest in open-source software and collaborative development.
- Excellent written communication skills in English.
- Based in or near Amsterdam, available 3 days per week in our office.
Bonus Points For
- Experience in technical support, DevRel, or sales engineering.
- Familiarity with analytical workloads, query engines, or storage systems.
- Contributions to open-source projects.
- Strong knowledge of Python is a bonus.
- A thoughtful perspective on what a great user and developer experience looks like.
