DevOps Engineer
As a DuckDB DevOps Engineer, you will be working with a small team of database experts on one of the most exciting, fastest-growing open-source database system in the world. You will play a critical role in building and maintaining our infrastructure for automated builds, tests, and deployments. Your focus will be on AWS and GitHub Actions, ensuring robust CI/CD pipelines and supporting multi-platform builds of our database engine. You will be based in our office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
In this role, you will be building the backbone that makes DuckDB truly unique: our ability to run anywhere, on any platform, and be distributed frictionlessly to our community. Much of our CI/CD and packaging infrastructure is open source, meaning your work directly enables external developers to build and distribute their own DuckDB extensions. You will be the first dedicated CI/CD specialist at DuckDB Labs, which gives you the opportunity to define our DevOps strategy and support the productivity of our engineering team.
Requirements
- Strong expertise in GitHub Actions for designing, maintaining, and optimizing CI/CD workflows.
- Solid knowledge of build systems (CMake, Ninja, or similar) and experience managing complex binary builds.
- Hands-on experience with cross-compilation and multi-architecture builds (e.g., x86_64, arm64).
- Familiarity with artifact management and distribution for binary releases.
- Strong understanding of Linux systems administration and shell scripting.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with a team of Software Engineers.
- Work visa valid in the Netherlands (EU/Schengen area).
Nice to Have
- Experience with container-based build environments and caching strategies.
- Experience in database systems or distributed systems.
- Experience with the cloud (AWS, GCP or Azure).
- Contributions to open-source projects.
