Solutions Engineer (DBMS / Open-Source)
Location: Amsterdam (Hybrid – 3 days in office)
Team: Developer Relations
About the Role
We’re looking for a Solutions Engineer to join our Developer Relations team, someone who takes genuine satisfaction in helping customers get the most out of DuckDB and who enjoys working across technical and business contexts.
This role is primarily about ensuring our customers and partners are successful with DuckDB. You’ll work closely with them to understand their use cases, guide them toward the right architectures, and act as a trusted technical advisor throughout their journey. You’ll also engage with our broader open-source community through forums, conferences, and online spaces, helping developers at all levels understand what DuckDB can do for them.
You are going to be one of the first Solutions Engineers at DuckDB Labs, and you’ll have the opportunity to shape how we engage with customers and grow this function over time.
We’re actively looking to strengthen the diversity of our team. In particular, we’d love to see more women represented in technical roles. If you’re a woman considering applying, please do, even if you’re not sure you meet every requirement.
What You’ll Do
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers, ensuring they adopt DuckDB effectively and achieve their goals.
- Engage with our open-source community through forums, GitHub discussions, social media, and other channels.
- Represent DuckDB at conferences and community events, occasionally traveling to share knowledge and connect with users (a few times per year).
- Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Developer Relations, and Sales to ensure a seamless customer experience.
- Occasionally triage and manage incoming support requests: clarify, reproduce, and route issues to the right team when needed.
- Spot recurring themes across customer interactions and contribute to documentation, guides, and best practices.
- Bring ideas for how we can improve our customer engagement, tooling, and processes as we scale.
What You Bring
- Strong understanding of database systems; ideally, hands-on DBMS experience.
- Solid working knowledge of SQL and comfort with analytical workloads.
- Ability to translate technical concepts clearly for a range of audiences, from data engineers to executives.
- Interest in open-source software and developer communities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Based in or near Amsterdam, available 3 days per week in our office.
- Comfortable with occasional travel to conferences or customer sites.
Bonus Points For
- Experience in solutions engineering, customer success, DevRel, or sales engineering.
- Familiarity with query engines, storage systems, or data infrastructure.
- Contributions to open-source projects.
- Strong knowledge of Python.
- A thoughtful perspective on what a great user and developer experience looks like.
